The charges stem from an incident on May 3 at the Love’s Travel Plaza near Waterloo.

Deputies responded to a report of several fires at the plaza. They said Avery and Collado tried to light their one-year-old child on fire. Deputies found the child covered in a flammable liquid. They found a second child, a four year old, with head injuries, abandoned in a tractor-trailer.

Both children are out of the hospital and expected to make a full recovery.

The sheriff’s office said the suspects share an address on Old Military Trail Road at North Military Trail Road, just north of Okeechobee Boulevard.
