A 6-year-old Virginia boy was shot and killed in Lynchburg Monday night, according to the Lynchburg Police Department.

At about 11:12 p.m., officers were called to the 1500 block of Floyd Street for a shots fired call. Moments later, they were alerted about a boy who had been shot.

Police shared that the victim, identified by the Lynchburg Peacemakers as 6-year-old Kingston Campbell, was shot in the head by gunfire while playing a video game in bed.

When officers arrived at the scene, we’re told Kingston had already passed away from his injuries.

Police said they obtained video footage that shows several subjects shooting into the occupied home before running away down Floyd Street toward 17th Street. You can see the footage embedded below.

“The murder of this child is a senseless tragedy stemming from a violent criminal act that has no place in our community,” LPD said in the update. “The LPD strives to partner with and protect our residents and visitors daily. To effectively do so, we need those members of our community who have knowledge about criminal activity such as this to come forward. The victim and his family deserve nothing less. Our thoughts are with all those impacted by this tragedy.”

No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation remains active and ongoing.
