Court documents reveal more details about the death of a two-year-old boy in Fairbury, Nebraska.

On Friday, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office arrested 18-year-old Jake Gonzalez of Fairbury on suspicion of second-degree murder and four additional charges related to the death of a two-year-old boy.

On Monday, court officials published a copy of the affidavit for a search warrant for the residence in which the child was found. The search warrant was issued and executed Friday night.

The affidavit says the Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a domestic assault in an apartment in the 700 block of J St. around 6:30 Friday night. A deputy says a woman at the apartment started crying and told him to “call an ambulance for my son.” Then, the deputy says Gonzalez, who was also in the apartment, started running. Other officers pursued him but didn’t catch him.

The deputy says the woman showed him to a closet in which the boy was laying face down in only a diaper. The child had visible bruising on the back of the head, arms, back and legs. The deputy also observed two black eyes and reported the child was “lethargic and poorly responsive.”

The boy was transported to Jefferson Community Health and Life by ambulance and eventually flown to Omaha by medical helicopter. The child was pronounced dead at Children’s Hospital.

The boy was identified as Hollen Siedschlag.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up by family for a memorial.

Deputies arrested Gonzalez shortly after he fled the scene. He is being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail. The investigation is ongoing and formal charges had not been filed as of Tuesday afternoon.

Gonzalez had been out on bond after being charged with assault and weapons violations last year. In that case, he is accused of shooting a man in Fairbury. Gonzalez was scheduled for a pretrial conference on Thursday but that court hearing has been continued to April 8.
