Court documents say a dispute over $40 led to a fatal shooting on W. Millbrook Drive last month.

19-year-old Tyreese Perkins has been charged with first-degree murder in the killing of 19-year-old Jakob Cole.

The Boone County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Perkins on Thursday, according to a news release.

Deputies responded to a residence in the 4700 block of W. Millbrook around 7:42 p.m. on February 15 on a report of shots fired. The sheriff’s department said Cole was found in a driveway with multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities took Cole to a local hospital. Deputies said he died shortly thereafter.

Witnesses told investigators Perkins and Cole had previously agreed to meet at the residence. Witnesses alleged that both men were going to meet “for a physical confrontation to settle their dispute” over $40 dollars.

Perkins’ probable cause statement said he was brought to the sheriff’s department for questioning a day after the shooting. Perkins allegedly told deputies that he and Cole did have a disagreement, however, he denied being at the crime scene, court documents said.

Surveillance video at the scene told a different story of the events Perkins described, deputies say. Investigators say footage taken before the shooting showed Perkins and Cole at the crime scene.

According to the probable cause statement, Perkins’ vehicle was parked at the shooting scene minutes before Cole was shot. The video showed someone getting out of the passenger side and shooting Cole from behind multiple times, investigators said.

Deputies allege Perkins can be seen on the surveillance footage running out of the residence at the crime scene, talking to the gunman and getting into his vehicle.

As of Friday, Perkins was in Boone County Jail custody being held without bond.
