22-year-old Jessica R. Ahlbrand has been arrested and charged with both child abuse and sexual abuse of her 18-month-old child, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
Police say that they gathered evidence against Ahlbrand by investigating recorded video chats between her and her incarcerated boyfriend, who is the father of the toddler. Her boyfriend is an inmate at the Boone County Detention Center.
In one of the video chats, Ahlbrand tells her boyfriend that she wasn’t able to find her “snacks”. Police believe that the snacks being discussed contained Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, which is the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis.
Ahlbrand tells her boyfriend that the child most likely is the culprit and consumed the snacks. She then showed the boyfriend several photos of the child, who appears to be incoherent, and most likely high.
“Deputies observed Ahlbrand and her boyfriend laughing at the sight of the photographs,” said the Boone County Sheriff’s Office in a release.
In that same video chat, Ahlbrand could be seen walking into the child’s bedroom and then performing sexual acts on herself while the child was in her presence.
Days later, in a different video chat with her boyfriend, Ahlbrand again performed sexual acts on herself while in the presence of the child.
Police say that Ahlbrand has been arrested and charged with one count of “Sexual Abuse 1st Degree, Victim under 12 Years of Age – Class C Felony” and one count “Criminal Abuse 2nd Degree, Child 12 or Under – Class D Felony”.
She is now lodged at the Boone County Detention Center. She is held on a $250,000 cash bond.
Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services has taken custody of the child.
