A 19-year-old is charged with the murder of his child’s mother following a deadly shooting Thursday evening in Gainesville, Florida.
Shortly after 7 p.m., deputies arrived to Eastwood Meadows Apartments to find a woman lying on the ground, according to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office. She was suffering from multiple gunshots wounds.
The investigation revealed that 19-year-old Jermaine Torres Williams shot the woman and fled the area.
Deputies said after the shooting, he threw out the clothes he was wearing at the time and got rid of the handgun he used.

The victim was taken to UF Health Shands where she was pronounced dead. She had previously filed an injunction against Williams, and it was granted in October 2020, and in effect through October 2022.
Williams and the victim had a child in common. The victim was identified as 20-year-old Makiya Ford.
Deputies later located and arrested Williams. He is being held at the Alachua County Jail on charges of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence.
