The brother of a 15-year-old girl who was shot and killed in Houston, Texas last week has been charged in connection with her death, police say.

20-year-old Jaylen George was arrested on Friday and was later charged with capital murder after investigators say he admitted to shooting his 15-year-old sister.

The shooting happened at an apartment complex on South Green near Almeda Genoa around 12:30 a.m. Friday.

Police say that this 15-year-old girl was known to run away. Her mom and stepfather had been looking for her for a few days. It was reported that it was her brother and his girlfriend who found her at these apartments.

Reports say, when they found her, the brother came back to this location. He had a gun, was holding the 15-year-old girl, assuming trying to keep her from running away, scaring her.

A witness stated George went to one of the apartments and was asking one of the tenants to get her property. Evidently, she had some things there. Got that stuff and then was leaving. The individuals in that apartment heard a pop.

Investigators say after hearing that pop, other neighbors also told police they heard someone say quote, “Oh my God, why did you do that?”

George wasn’t on the scene when officers arrived, according to police. He was taken into custody without incident.

The identity of the victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

He was found to have three open felony warrants. The incident remains under investigation.
