The husband of a Midfield High School teacher has been charged with murder in the fatal Sunday afternoon shooting at their Adamsville, Alabama home.

41-year-old Nakeshia Biggs-Lowe, a mother of two children including a 6-month-old daughter, died shortly after 3 p.m. Adamsville police on Tuesday announced the arrest of her husband, Kelvin Lowe.

Adamsville police and medics responded at 2:46 p.m. Sunday to the Biggs home on Crestview Drive in Adamsville. She was pronounced dead on the scene at 3:07 p.m.

Adamsville Police Chief Warren Cotton said Lowe told investigators his wife was accidentally shot during a struggle over the firearm. “They had some type of disagreement,’’ Cotton said.

Cotton said as part of the probe, detectives interviewed a witness who was at the home at the time of the fatal shooting.

Investigators presented the evidence to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office Tuesday, which issued the murder warrant. Bond for Lowe is set at $100,000.

Rufus Biggs said his daughter was cooking in preparation for a birthday celebration scheduled for Sunday in honor of her husband. He said Lowe called him to tell him about the shooting.

Biggs said he rushed to the couple’s home, but he couldn’t get to his daughter because police had already roped off the scene.

Nakeshia Biggs-Lowe was a paraprofessional in special education at Midfield High School.
