A Burlington County, New Jersey teenager sitting in the passenger seat of a stolen car was shot in the head Saturday as the vehicle pulled into a gas station, law enforcement officials said.

14-year-old Jesse Everett was taken to Virtua Willingboro Hospital in a private vehicle, then airlifted to Cooper University Medical Center in Camden, where he died at 5:24 p.m. Saturday.

No arrests have been made, officials said.

“The incident is not considered to be a random confrontation,” said a press release from Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina and Willingboro Township Public Safety Director Kinamo Lomon.

Willingboro Township police officers were called to the Phillips 66 gas station on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive just before 3 p.m. Saturday after they received a report of a shooting, officials said.

Everett was in the passenger seat of the car, which had been reported to police as stolen earlier, when the vehicle pulled up to the gas pumps, investigators said. Then, a second vehicle pulled up and a man jumped out of the passenger side door and shot Everett once in the head.

Two other people inside the car with Everett were not injured, police said.

Everett’s family set up a GoFundMe to assist with funeral costs.

Investigators released no details about a possible motive for the shooting.
