Shots were fired early Thursday at a Fairfield, Alabama home, leaving one person dead.
Jefferson County sheriff’s Sgt. Joni Money said deputies responded shortly after 1 a.m. to the shooting at a home in the 500 block of Osceola Circle.
Deputies arrived to find that an argument between family members resulted in shots being fired. An adult female was struck and taken to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead at 2:16 a.m.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Ladiamonique Esta Zaire Simmons. She was 27 and the mother of three young boys.
Money said the other family member involved left the residence but did call and report the shooting to law enforcement. He told authorities he would be waiting at a nearby convenience store where deputies were able to make contact with him.
He and other witnesses are fully cooperating with the investigation, Money said. She said the investigation is ongoing and evidence will be presented to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.
