Police are investigating the homicide of a Buena Vista Township woman, apparently killed by her son who then took his own life in Saginaw, Michigan.
On Thursday, September 30, Buena Vista Township police advised they were looking for 48-year-old Lawanda Drake who had been missing since 4:30 p.m. that day. She was last seen leaving her residence in a black Chevrolet Impala.
Buena Vista Township Police officers at around 8 p.m. responded to an apparent suicide in the area of Wadsworth Road and South Outer Drive.
Officers responded to the scene and found Demarquis Drake, the 32-year-old son of Lawanda Drake, deceased of a gunshot wound in a vehicle, according to Buena Vista Police Chief Reggie Williams II.

The next morning at around 6:40 a.m., Saginaw police officers responded to 332 N. 21 St. after a man called 911 to report he had come home from work and found Lawanda Drake deceased from gunshot wounds.
Drake and the homeowner were friends, police said.
The two scenes are about seven-tenths of a mile away from each other.
Initial information is that Demarquis Drake killed his mother then himself, police said. Saginaw and Buena Vista Township detectives are collaborating on the ongoing investigation.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the victim and the community,” the Saginaw Police Department stated in a press release.
