A 30-year-old woman was shot to death early Sunday in Birmingham, Alabama. Police have identified the victim as Donnika Renee Sills.

The shooting happened about 3:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Third Avenue North.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said North Precinct officers responded to the scene after hearing the gunfire. Shot Spotter also alerted police that more than 10 rounds had been fired in the area.

When officers got on the scene, they found Sills unresponsive on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced her dead on the scene.

Fitzgerald said the preliminary investigation suggests the shooting may have stemmed from a verbal argument that had taken place earlier between the victim and the suspects, who have not been identified. Videos circulating on social media showed a physical fight between a group of women in that area, but police haven’t said whether Sills was involved in the altercation that was recorded.

No arrests have been made.
