A woman whose remains were found in a building fire Sunday evening had been shot to death, law enforcement reported.

A news release stated that DC Fire and EMS personnel had responded to a residential building following a report of smoke just after 4:15 p.m. on October 31 in the 2300 block of Green Street, Southeast DC.

They found a woman with “apparent thermal injuries.”

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the fire and following an autopsy Monday. Medical examiner determined 32-year-old Cynthia Barringer of Southeast, DC. had died from a gunshot wound.

Barringer’s death has been ruled a homicide.

Police Department has offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest or conviction in the case.

Those with information have been asked to call police at 202-727-9099 or to anonymously submit information by sending a text message to 50411.
