Authorities suspect a feud led one man to shoot and kill his cousin in a Summerlin, Nevada restaurant last month, according to an arrest warrant.
39-year-old Marcus Larry was shot and killed while inside the Teriyaki Madness on Charleston Boulevard Tuesday, November 23. An employee was also shot and wounded.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said Larry appeared to be the target.
Police interviewed witnesses and reviewed surveillance video from the restaurant and the surrounding area. They determined the gunman drove a white van to Red Rock Casino, where he left the van, and then walked to Downtown Summerlin.
Witnesses identified the gunman as Oscar Richardson, according to the warrant. Police learned Richardson was Larry’s cousin, and that the two were involved in a feud stemming from a 2009 homicide.
Though the incident is not referenced further, LVMPD previously confirmed that Larry was arrested and charged in the 2009 death of Savannah Mullins.
According to court records, Larry reached an Alford plea in 2013 on charges of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder. An Alford plea means Larry did not admit to being guilty of the charges, but rather that the evidence would likely lead to a jury to convict him.
Richardson and his girlfriend reported being shot at in February this year, police wrote in their warrant, and Richardson said in interviews he believed Larry was responsible.
Police wrote that they got a warrant for Richardson’s Instagram account, in which he messaged his sister for money. He also posted photos of several handguns on a table, one that appeared to be consistent with the gun used in Larry’s killing.
Surveillance video was shown to people who knew Richardson, and one person said “she was 70 percent sure the suspect was Richardson,” noting a tattoo on his neck and his build.
The warrant was issued for Richardson’s arrest and he was booked into a Texas jail last week. He is awaiting extradition to Las Vegas.
