Prosecutors filed murder charges against a man Monday in the weekend shooting deaths of his grandmother and uncle in Cahokia Heights, Illinois.
32-year-old Simeon M. Moore was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in St. Clair County, Illinois. Moore was being held in lieu of $2 million bail.
Moore lives in the 2700 block of Calvin Boulevard in Cahokia Heights, in the same house where the victims died.
76-year-old Esther Cummings and her son, 48-year-old Ronnie Cummings were discovered deceased Sunday morning, said St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. They had both been shot to death.
Someone had called police about 8 a.m. Sunday about a domestic disturbance at 2722 Calvin Boulevard, just south of Camp Jackson Road, city officials said. Police took Moore into custody Sunday, and the state’s attorney in St. Clair County charged him on Monday.
Moore is the grandson of Esther Cummings and the nephew of Ronnie Cummings, said Francella Jackson, director of administrative operations for the city of Cahokia Heights. Jackson said Moore and the two victims all lived in the same house.
Authorities did not disclose a possible motive for the killings. The police chief said Moore didn’t say anything to officers.
