A 20-year-old Detroit, Michigan woman was killed Monday in a drive-by shooting that police say is a case of mistaken identity.

Ciera Wells was riding with her mother Yquitta Wells and 11-year-old sister to pick up some fruit from the grocery store when someone opened fire on their vehicle, according to FOX2.

Ciera, who was sitting in the backseat, was hit by two bullets that went through a taillight and into her back. Yquitta told WXYZ-Detroit that she called 911 for an ambulance, but it never arrived, leaving a police officer on scene to have to transport Ciera to a nearby hospital, where she eventually died.

The shooting took place near 7 Mile and Hayes, a few blocks away from the family’s home on Madellein Street. Ciera and her family just celebrated her 20th birthday the day before.

Two suspects have been arrested in the shooting, but details on who they were targeting and why police say it’s a case of mistaken identity have not been released.
