The mother of a teenager found dead this week in Jackson, Mississippi said her son went missing over the weekend.

Police found 17-year-old Kevin Edwards dead inside a carport of an abandoned house just before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday on Glen Erin Street. Police said he had been shot once with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Edwards was last seen leaving his home on Saturday.

Lakey Doss reported her son missing to the police after he did not return her calls.

“I knew something wasn’t right, and something had happened to my baby. He never did this, never,” Doss told local news.

Doss said she’s been overwhelmed and exhausted since learning of her son’s death.

“I just want answers,” she said. “I’m left with no answers. To know my baby left like this, and he suffered.”

Police have not made any arrests or released a motive for the fatal shooting.

“Somebody knows something, who did this to my child, and someone needs to come forward,” Doss said. “My baby didn’t deserve the way he was found. He didn’t deserve this at all.”

JPD is continuing to investigate who may have shot and killed Edwards. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (601) 355-8477.
