A 27-year-old Washington D.C. man was charged in the shooting of an 8-month-old baby in Waldorf, Maryland.
Delvonte Elmore was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, home invasion, use of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and other related charges.
According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, just after noon on April 14, there was a shooting in the 3000 block of Gallery Place. Detectives learned two men allegedly forced their way into a home and found a woman inside holding her 8-month-old son. The men broke into the apartment looking for another person who wasn’t there. The suspect allegedly held a gun to the woman’s head, but during a struggle the gun discharged and struck the infant in the hand.
The baby boy was airlifted to an area hospital and later released after treatment.
Elmore was arrested on April 18 in D.C.
Investigators are looking for the second suspect in the case.
