Two people are dead after a shooting at a south Tulsa, Oklahoma apartment complex Monday evening.

Around 6 p.m. police went to the Crossings at Minshall Park Apartments near 81st and Sheridan after calls came in about a naked man walking around with an assault rifle and firing shots.

When officers arrived on the scene, the man, who police identified as Dwayne Jackson, was sitting with the gun in his lap.

Officers investigating reports Monday night of a naked man firing a rifle in the area found Dwayne Jackson with a rifle outside the complex, according to Capt. Richard Meulenberg.

Meulenberg said Rickia Crawford and another woman were trying to calm Jackson, with Crawford standing between him and the police.

“She was saying ‘don’t shoot him, don’t shoot him, you’ll have to shoot me first,’” as officers approached them, Meulenberg said.

“Literally in the blink of an eye he pointed the rifle at Mrs. Crawford and shot her point blank in the chest,” Meulenberg said.

According to police, Jackson shot Crawford in the chest, and two officers opened fire on the shooter.

The two officers then opened fire, striking Jackson, and both he and Crawford were taken to a hospital where they were pronounced dead, according to Meulenberg.

Rickia’s cousin, Nicole Davis, told us at Illicit Deeds, “The mom told police that they’ll have to shoot her first. Rickia is the one that walked up trying to get him to put the gun down and got shot.”

Police believe Jackson had been dating Crawford, Meulenberg said. The other woman at the scene was his mother.

Meulenberg said there were no other injuries and that it is not known yet how many rounds Jackson fired before officers arrived, but that numerous shell casings were found at the scene.

Johnson and Crawford were taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, and died from their injuries.

Both police officers are on paid leave pending an investigation.

Rickia’s family set up a GoFundMe account to assist with burial and funeral expenses. You can donate here.
