Authorities say a man was killed in an early morning shooting in the Hornerstown, Pennsylvania section of Johnstown over the weekend and police are providing new details about the investigation.

According to Cambria County District Attorney Greg Neugebauer, the Johnstown Police Department was called to the 600 block of Horner Street, just before 1 a.m. Sunday, for a report of shots fired.

Police say officers found the victim, identified as 60-year-old Edward West, slumped over against 3 Reds Tavern, with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso, according to a criminal complaint.

Investigators say the victim was transported to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees ruled West’s manner of death to be homicide and said that he died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police say at approximately 3 a.m., authorities located the suspect, identified as 40-year-old Arlaya Morris, and took her into custody, authorities stated in a press release.

According to the arrest affidavit, police interviewed a witness who told officers that they saw Morris following West prior to the shooting.

Police allege in the complaint that Morris followed West to the 3 Reds Tavern parking lot, from the Elk’s Lodge, where she shot him multiple times.

Morris is charged with several felonies including criminal homicide and aggravated assault, according to online court documents.

Police also noted that Morris had a previous conviction for robbery.

She is being held at the Cambria County Prison, with bail denied, and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 14.

District Attorney Neugebauer commended the police for their efforts in the investigation and thanked the community for their assistance at a press conference Tuesday.
