Police in Florida are investigating a drive-by shooting in a northwest Miami-Dade neighborhood that left a teenage boy dead Wednesday morning.
The shooting happened around 10 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 7100 block of Northwest 14th Place, just blocks from Miami Northwestern Senior High School.
Miami-Dade Police officials confirmed a 17-year-old was killed in a shooting at the scene. He has been identified as Cairi McNear.
Footage showed officers outside the apartment complex, which was closed off by yellow police crime scene tape.
At one point, a distraught woman was heard screaming “I want to see my baby!” repeatedly to officers.
The teen’s grandmother said she had been supposed to take him to school.
“I don’t know what happened. I just know I was going to take him to school and he changed his mind and said he was going to get a ride here in the Lyft, then in the next 30 minutes I hear this happened,” Anna Darden said.
Darden said the teen didn’t live at the complex.
Miami-Dade police said the shooter pulled up to the area of Northwest 71st Street and 15th Avenue around 10 a.m. on a motorcycle before shooting McNear multiple times.
A woman who lives in the area said that she heard at least four gunshots.
Darden watched as her grandson’s body left the area in the back of the medical examiner’s van.
Anyone with further information about the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
