A man who police killed in Kent, Washington on Wednesday evening has been identified.

27-year-old Marshall Curtis Jones, who was killed in Kent during an arrest attempt, was wanted for the disappearance of 24-year-old Alexis Gabe, his ex-girlfriend who was last seen on January 26, according to officials from Oakley, California.

Paul Beard, the chief of the Oakley Police Department, held a press conference on Thursday from the Bay Area town.

Jones was charged with murdering Gabe, whose father delivered an emotional speech at the press conference, surrounded by family.

Police in California held a press conference Thursday after the ex-boyfriend of a missing California woman was killed by police in Kent, Washington.

Seattle Police Department (SPD) Detective Valerie Carson said officers from the SPD, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Department went to an apartment complex in the 3500 block of South 222 Place around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday to take Jones into custody.

Jones answered the door and started to charge officers with a knife before police opened fire and killed him, according to police.

No officers were injured during the incident.

Detectives from Oakley and Antioch —Jones’ hometown — were on the scene in Kent.

Beard said Thursday the investigation was still “very active and open.” He added there are no signs of life anywhere for Gabe.

There was ample “digital and forensic” evidence linking Jones to Gabe’s disappearance, Beard said.

Police were aware Jones had left California for Washington state following Gabe’s disappearance, Beard said, adding he believes Jones has family and/or friends in Washington.

“Our investigation into the disappearance of Alexis Gabe has consumed the men and women in my department, and she has been our primary focus since this investigation was initiated,” Beard said. “Her disappearance has been both heartbreaking and frustrating. It has taken an emotional and a physical toll on all of those involved in the investigation.”
