Authorities said they have arrested the man they believe shot and killed a North Carolina woman Thursday morning in the town of Spencer.

Spencer Police Chief Michael File said that his officers responded just after 6:00 a.m. to a report of shots fired in the area of a house in the 500 block of North Salisbury Avenue, beside the Spencer Mini Center.

Once they entered the home, they found the victim, according to Chief File.

“They did locate a female victim that was deceased from a single gunshot wound.” File said. He then identified the victim is 32-year-old Aimee Wah.

“We don’t have a motive at this point, but they were in a relationship previously so we tend to believe it was domestic in nature,” Chief File said.

Police say her former boyfriend, Antoine Jermaine Mills, is the suspect in her death. He was arrested Thursday afternoon by Cabarrus County deputies following a standoff in a area near Barnett Road. Cabarrus County Sheriff’s deputies, along with police from Spencer and Salisbury took Mills into custody.

Yellow crime scene tape was placed around the house. Spencer Police are being assisted by the Salisbury Police Department’s crime scene unit.

Many family members gathered outside the home. A Spencer Police chaplain and the victim’s advocate from the Salisbury Police Department worked with Wah’s family.

A neighbor who did not want to be identified said seeing the crime scene, and knowing those involved was difficult.

“It’s bad, it’s very bad, but I pray that they are able to get through it,” the neighbor said.
