A 25-year-old California man was killed and four other people wounded in a shooting Thursday night outside a downtown Oakland sports bar, authorities said.

Police identified the man Friday afternoon as Jermaine Brown.

The other people wounded were a 33-year-old man, who was in critical condition; and a 21-year-old San Francisco woman, a 58-year-old San Lorenzo man and a 38-year-old Oakland man, who were all in stable condition, authorities said.

The shooting happened shortly before 10:30 p.m. Thursday in the 300 block of 14th Street, between Webster and Harrison streets.  There are bars and other businesses on that portion of the street.

Police said at least three people approached on foot and began shooting at a group of people, including Brown, who were standing outside one of the bars. Investigators believe Brown was the intended target.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.  A motive for the shooting is under investigation.

Initial reports indicated that the 58 and 38-year-old men were not part of the group shot at, but were nearby and were hit by stray bullets.

The shooters fled in a vehicle before police arrived.

Three of the shooting victims were taken from the scene to hospitals by ambulances.  The fourth person got their own transportation to a hospital.

Since March of 2019 when four people were shot inside one of the bars, that portion of 14th Street has seen at least five injury shootings, including  one on April 10 where two women were shot while standing outside on 14th Street near Harrison Street after a fight between some other people broke out.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $30,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the shooter. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950, or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
