The Alabama woman facing capital murder charges in the killing of her 2-year-old daughter drowned the child in a bathtub filled with “cold water and olive oil,” according to court documents in the case filed Friday.

25-year-old Luccuina Braithwaite was arrested Wednesday following a brief chase and remains in the Madison County jail without bond.

In an affidavit filed Friday in Madison County Circuit Court, a Huntsville police officer claimed Braithwaite killed her 2-year-old daughter, identified in court records as Laioni Harriet Douglas, by “forced drowning her with a bathtub full of cold water and olive oil.”

Officers responded to a welfare check call about 11 a.m. Wednesday and found Laioni floating in the bathtub, police said. Officers initiated CPR and she was transferred to Huntsville Hospital by HEMSI. The child died at the hospital.

Police said Braithwaite fled after officers attempted to detain her at the scene in an apartment in the 12000 block of Sugar Mill Circle but she was captured on the property of Challenger School on Chaney Thompson Road after a short pursuit. Police said Braithwaite had no connection to the school and there was no threat to anyone at the school.
