Police in Florida are investigating the death of a 33-year-old man in a homicide encompassing at least two separate crime scenes Friday morning.
Fort Myers Police have identified the victim as Craig Dujuan Truttling. His body was found inside a pickup truck on the side of Highlands Circle.
It appeared the truck crashed into a fence and left behind visible damage.
In addition to the Highlands Circle scene, Fort Myers Police Department officers are also present at a second scene about half a mile away on Work Drive and Hanson Street.
Police said no one has been arrested, but they are waiting to execute search warrants. An officer also said there are at least two other scenes connected to Truttling’s death, but declined to disclose where they are.
Family members arrived on Highland Circle at around 6 a.m. after Truttling was not answering his phone. They began to cry after recognizing his truck.
“I guess it woke me up and they were shooting firecrackers,” Hunter said. “It sounded like it was right here in my yard because it was so loud.”
But Hunter said she didn’t realize until she got up in the morning that someone had been killed.
Another neighbor said he heard gunshots and saw the truck pass him slowly, passing the stop sign and hitting a fence and ending in a ditch.
“He was almost home,” said a relative of Truttling. “He ready to go to work, he don’t bother nobody. Never even had a fight in school. He’s a coach for kids. I didn’t want them to say it was Craig. I can’t go through this again.”
Truttling was a coach for the Fort Myers Firecats.
“Firecats family hearts are heavy as we have learned of the untimely passing of Coach Craig Truttling, an assistant coach for 14u,” the team said. “We send our sincere condolences to the family. We will have more information regarding funeral arrangements once we receive it.”
FMPD detectives are seeking tips from anyone who may have information on Truttling’s homicide. You can remain anonymous by contacting Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-8477.
