Police in Alabama are investigating the fatal shooting of a 35-year-old Birmingham man early Monday morning.
Birmingham police late Monday afternoon identified the victim as 35-year-old Alonzo Colvin. A person of interest has been taken into custody.
Birmingham police at 7:39 a.m. were dispatched to Pratt Highway and Heflin Avenue West after receiving a call from a resident of shots fired.
West Precinct officers arrived to find Colvin in the driver’s seat of a dark sedan. He had been shot and was pronounced dead on the scene.
“The information we’ve received so far is very limited,’’ Mauldin said, “but we do believe some form of altercation occurred prior to this male being shot.”
Mauldin said they believe the fatal shooting was isolated and that the victim was targeted.
“This is a pretty quiet area, so our neighbors have been assisting in our investigation which we appreciate,’’ he said. “We’re asking others to do the same.”
Anyone with information is asked to call homicide detectives at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
