Police in Texas arrested a man this week in the slayings of a couple found dead days after they were shot in a northeast Dallas apartment where two young children were discovered unharmed.
19-year-old Quincy Edwards was booked into the Dallas County jail Thursday on two counts of capital murder, jail records show. His bail has been set at $5,000,000, and it is unclear whether he has an attorney.
Police were called about noon June 29 to conduct a welfare check at the Northridge Court Apartments in the 6000 block of Ridgecrest Road, near Greenville Avenue and Park Lane, and found 24-year-old Jimena Nunez Sandoval and 27-year-old David Stewart shot to death inside an apartment.
Two children in the apartment, a 3-year-old and an 8-month-old, were not hurt but had been left alone.
According to an affidavit, someone called 911 just before midnight June 26 to report a fight and gunshots coming from the apartment. Officers went to the apartment that night but left when no one responded to them knocking on the door.
Detectives later found surveillance footage and saw that three people approached the apartment door late June 26 and confronted Stewart, the affidavit says. One shot was fired, and one of the three assailants forced their way inside.
The three left the apartment but returned throughout the night to take bags from the apartment, the affidavit says. The couple’s car, a black 2014 Nissan Sentra, was also stolen.
A witness told police that Edwards confided in him that he was at the apartment with two other people to rob the couple. The witness said Edwards had shot Stewart, according to the affidavit.
One of the other people also fired a gunshot, the witness told police.
