The explosive sounds of gunshots woke a quiet Georgia neighborhood in Cochran Monday as bullets pierced through the Satterwhite family’s apartment.
According to law enforcement, those bullets struck and killed 2-year-old Yasir Satterwhite and injured 4-year-old Tamir Satterwhite at Deer Runs Apartments.
“Something like this is horrendous…I’ve been here 21 years and I’ve never experienced something like this here in Bleckley county,” Major Daniel Cape said.
The same goes for parent, Jalen Butts who heard the shooting and says he feels on edge.
“For the most part everybody keeps to themselves. In my two years, this is probably one of the craziest things I’ve seen out here…I was just in the kitchen with me and my family and all of a sudden we just heard some gunshots, and my first thing was to get the kids to safety,” Butts said.
A safety every family should be able to rely on. That’s why law enforcement is working diligently to find those responsible for pulling the trigger.
We are confident that the two children were not the intended targets but we’re exploring all options who the intended targets are….The sheriff’s office and our partners are offering a $6,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of any individuals responsible for this heinous crime, Major Cape said.
