Police in South Carolina said the suspect who allegedly shot and killed a teen at Anderson Mall turned himself in on Monday afternoon.
The Anderson Police Department said they responded to the Anderson Mall on Saturday, July 9, at around 11:30 a.m. When they arrived, they learned that a man had been shot in the head. The victim was airlifted to Greenville Memorial for treatment.
The Anderson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 19-year-old Shy’heem Kalil Clemons. He died at the hospital on Sunday.
Clemons was a member of Greenboro College’s football team for several years. Greensboro College Athletics released a statement regarding the situation on Monday afternoon.
“We are shocked and deeply saddened to have lost such an inspirational leader on our Pride football team due to what appears to be a senseless act of violence in Shy’heem’s home town. Our most sincere prayers and loving thoughts are extended to his family and friends. His brief but impactful life as a part of the Greensboro College community will be most remembered as a service leader and a difference maker, and we mourn with all those who loved him dearly.”
Head football coach Tyler Card also released a statement about Clemons’ passing:
“This is a great tragedy for the Pride Football Family. Shy was a member of our 1st recruiting class at Greensboro College and a major foundation of what we have created here. I can’t stop thinking about his great attitude and personality that could get everyone smiling and locked in at the same time. Shy was a hard worker on and off the field. He was proud to be a part of the Pride Family and exemplified it to the fullest. He will be missed but not forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his mom and family.”
The coroner said a preliminary investigation indicates Clemons was shot during an altercation at the mall.
20-year-old Eimillio Tyleekus Que Robinson has been identified as the suspect in the shooting. The department said Robinson was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. According to officers, he turned himself in at the police department at 3:15 p.m.
Officers said they believe this was an isolated incident between people who knew each other.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office also confirmed a shooting reported on Saturday at Meadow Run Apartments was connected to the shooting at the mall.
