A Michigan mother is being charged with murder in connection with the death of her 2-year-old daughter days after a man was charged in the same case.

Michigan State Police say they have arrested and charged 22-year-old Adrienne Pavelka in connection with the July 22 death of a toddler. That Friday, the deceased 2-year-old girl was brought to MyMichigan Medical Center in Alpena, where law enforcement was called to investigate.

Investigators located the child’s home and identified Glennie man, 31-year-old Aaron Trout, as the suspect. He was formally charged on Monday with felony murder and was denied bond.

Upon further investigation, police learned that Pavelka, the deceased child’s mother, “had knowledge of, or was involved with, the death of the child and was a flight risk,” officials reported Friday, July 29.

The woman was reportedly arrested in Lenawee County, then taken to and lodged in the Iosco County Jail. She was arraigned Friday on an open murder charge in the 81st District Court in Standish. She was also denied bail.

Authorities have not shared the exact cause of the child’s death. No further details have been provided at this time.
