Police in Maryland have arrested a man and woman on multiple charges involving the death of a 5-year-old boy on Friday, according to a post on the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page

At approximately 2:35 pm, deputies responded to 11877 White Pine Drive in Hagerstown for an unconscious child. Upon arrival, deputies contacted Emergency Service providers who were attempting life saving measures on a 5-year-old boy. 

The child was transported to Meritus Medical Center and then to Children’s National Hospital in Washington D.C. where he was ultimately pronounced deceased. The child was ultimately transported to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Washington D.C. for an autopsy. 

Through investigation, Detectives were able to arrest Timothy Lee Haselden second and charge him with the following: 

  • Child Abuse 1st Degree: Death less than 13
  • Rape 1st Degree
  • Rape 2nd Degree
  • Assault 1st Degree
  • Assault 2nd Degree
  • Child Abuse 2nd Degree: Custodian
  • Child Abuse 1st Degree: Severe Physical Injury
  • Neglect of a minor
  • Sex Abuse of a Minor

Haselden was transported to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center where he remains held without bond. 

On Monday, July 25th, 2022, Detectives obtained information which led to the arrest of the mother, 30-year-old Catherine Thrasher. Thrasher was charged with the following:

  • Child Abuse 1st Degree: Death less than 13
  • Assault 1st Degree
  • Assault 2nd Degree
  • Child Abuse 1st Degree: Severe Physical Injury
  • Sex Abuse of a Minor
  • Child Abuse 2nd Degree: Custodian
  • Neglect of a minor

Thrasher was transported to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center where she currently remains held without bond. 

Investigation revealed that two other minor children, a 2-year-old male and a 3-year-old female, were also present at this location. The two-year-old was taken to Children’s National Hospital located in Washington D.C. The boy has since been released from the hospital.

Both children now remain in the care of the Washington County Department of Social Services. 

At this time, this case is on-going, and more information will be made available at a later date.
