A Central New York man and his 18-month-old daughter were killed Sunday in a shooting in a small village near Glacier National Park in Montana, according to friends and the Glacier County Sheriff’s office.
39-year-old David Siau was killed in the shooting at about 10 p.m. Sunday, along with his daughter, McKenzie, Capt. Tom Seifert of the Glacier County sheriff’s office said on Tuesday.
40-year-old Christy Siau, David’s wife, is in critical condition.
The couple has two other young children who were with them at the time, Seifert said. He said they were not hurt.
In all, three people were killed and two injured in the shooting in East Glacier Park village, Seifert said. The third person killed was a man, but police did not release his identity.
The injured — Christy Siau and another woman — were flown to a hospital for treatment, he said.
Friends of the couple said they moved to the Pompey area several years ago, and attended Pompey Community Church.
Pompey Community Church Pastor Dan Werthman said the church is conducting a special service to help the congregation begin to deal with the tragedy.
The couple previously attended Missio Church in Syracuse, friends said.
“David and Christy Siau are caring, sweet people who are thoughtful of others,’’ said Michael Mazzye, pastor of Renovation Church in North Syracuse who knew them from Missio Church and another church. “I can’t imagine this horrible tragedy. It’s unthinkable.”
David worked for Benchmark Media in Eastwood, Mazzye said.
Officials said there was no further threat to public safety and no search was underway for any suspects, FBI officials said.
The shooting was on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, home to about 17,000 members of the Blackfeet Nation. The reservation borders Glacier National Park to the west and Canada to the north.
The FBI, along with the Glacier County Sheriff’s Office, Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services and Montana Highway Patrol, responded to the shooting and are continuing to investigate.
The investigation continues to be very active, said Sandra Barker, a spokesperson for the FBI’s Salt Lake City division
Seifer said no other information is being released at this time but updates are expected.
