A 57-year-old Mississippi man is dead and his son and his wife are facing charges in Vicksburg.

Warren County sheriff’s deputies were called about 7 p.m. Tuesday to a home on Castle Road. Sheriff Martin Pace said Jeffrey Young Sr. was found shot to death in the front yard of his home.

Pace said a brief argument took place between Young Sr. and his son, Jeffery Young Jr., prior to the shooting.

23-year-old Jeffery Young Jr. is charged with murder and 55-year-old Tracie Young is charged with accessory after the fact, Pace said.

A judge set bond at $1 million for Jeffery Young Jr., and $500,000 for his mother during a court hearing on Wednesday.

“I just feel for the family — entirely, for both sides,” said family friend and pastor Kojo Davis. “He’s a good, hard-working guy, or he was a good, hard-working guy. To see this happen, especially by his son, that’s really heartbreaking.”

Lt. Stacy Rollison, chief of investigations, testified that Young Jr. admitted to the shooting.

Investigator Erich Jershied said during the hearing that Tracie Young lied about her son’s involvement, which led to the charges against her. Jershied said the same caliber of gun used in the shooting was found in Young Jr.’s room.
