An Alabama suspect has been arrested on a capital murder charge in the double homicide of a Birmingham man and woman Thursday night, police said Friday.

31-year-old Curtis Humphry had a romantic relationship with the female victim, identified Friday as 30-year-old Cheyanne Maria Wilson, said Birmingham police spokesman Officer Truman Fitzgerald. She was from Birmingham.

Wilson and 41-year-old Reginald Jerome Reynolds died from apparent gunshot wounds Thursday night.

The preliminary investigation showed Humphry forced his way in to a home in the 2300 block of 20th Place Ensley when he shot the victims, Fitzgerald said.

West Precinct officers were dispatched to the scene around 10:40 p.m. Thursday on a report of a person shot. That’s when they found Wilson laying unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Officers then learned Reynolds was laying unresponsive across the street in a yard, also suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, according to Fitzgerald.

Humphry fled the scene, but East Precinct Task Force officers developed a lead on his whereabouts and initiated a traffic stop on Humphry’s vehicle on John Rogers Drive and Alton Road.

He was arrested without incident and taken to Birmingham police headquarters downtown, where he was questioned by detectives.

Detectives obtained a warrant for capital murder against Humphry, who is being taken to the Jefferson County Jail without bond.

Anyone with information on the case was asked to call Birmingham police’s homicide unit at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.

Anonymous tips may also be sent to Crime Stoppers through the department’s mobile app.
