The girlfriend of a Mississippi man found stabbed in a vehicle in East Columbus has been arrested for his murder.

51-year-old Carla Marie Hunt is charged with killing 55-year-old Willie D. Jennings during a domestic dispute on Friday, Police Chief Fred Shelton said.

“Her and (Jennings) were at a house on Emerald Drive and they got into an argument,” Shelton said. “He assaulted her and she assaulted him back.”

Officers found Jennings trapped in an overturned car on Shannon Drive just after 6 a.m. When first responders got him out of the car, they found that he had been stabbed. He was unable to tell police what happened and died shortly after arriving at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.

He was driving to try to get help when the vehicle crashed, Shelton said.

Hunt was picked up Friday after she was found walking in the area, Shelton said.

“Some witnesses said she was involved, that she was his girlfriend,” Shelton said.

Hunt had cocaine on her and was charged with possession, he said. She was still in jail on the drug charge when she was also charged with murder.

She was denied bond due to being out on bond for an accessory to murder charge dating back to 2018, Shelton said. In that case Terry Lee Bradford turned himself in for the murder of Walter James Kyles, who was found dead of a gunshot wound behind some apartments at the intersection of 11th Street and 11th Avenue South.

“She allegedly helped dispose of the body, helped the guy clean up behind it,” Shelton said.
