Norfolk Police in Virginia confirmed the body of a woman found late Saturday night is a missing woman from Virginia Beach and her death has been ruled a homicide.
According to police, the call came in around 11:30 p.m. Saturday for officers to respond to the 1000 block of Galt Street, in the Olde Huntersville area off Tidewater Drive. A woman, identified as 40-year-old Marie D. Covington, was pronounced dead at the scene.
As a result of their investigation, Norfolk detectives charged 43-year-old Gary Morton with second-degree murder and use of firearm.
Morton is currently being held in the Chesapeake City Jail without bond. Police have not released the motive or any other details surrounding the case.
