An Illinois shooting killed a mom of two and injured a man in Chicago on Tuesday night, according to authorities.
“Just knowing that she’s not going to be here anymore… I know they say God only gives you so much you can bear, but this is a little hard at 26,” said her cousin, Trena McGregory.
Police said she was shot in the head and killed around 1:15 p.m. while riding southbound on South DuSable Lake Shore Drive near 45th Street. Relatives said Threatt was in her Jeep SUV on the passenger’s side.
A 31-year-old man was behind the wheel, police said. Critically-wounded from gunshot wounds to the body and legs, he exited the drive and ended up stopping the bullet-riddled vehicle in the Hyde Park neighborhood. Both were transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition before Threatt was pronounced dead.
Officials said it all started with some sort of situation between two motorists.
“I pray that the city of Chicago, police find the person that did this, so we have justice,” McGregory said.
Investigators were still working in the rain, processing evidence from the vehicle on Tuesday night.
Relatives said Threatt, who lived in Bellwood, was a mother of two school-age children and ran a successful West Side business. She rented out salon space to hair stylists and makeup artists.
“She was just a 26-year-old girl with two daughters and trying to do right,” McGregory said.
No one is in custody and area detectives are investigating.
Police did not immediately provide further information about the shooting.
