Police in Michigan are investigating an early morning shooting that left one woman dead Tuesday and shut down a busy intersection for several hours.
It happened just after 1 a.m. near the intersection of 44th Street and Eastern Avenue SE in Grand Rapids, not far from the border with Kentwood. Police responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash and found a woman at the scene who had been shot.
Authorities identified her as 30-year-old Tamiqua Wright.
Police say the woman and the suspect were in a vehicle together when the suspect shot and killed her. The suspect then fled the scene on foot, leaving the woman in the vehicle.
It is believed the suspect was a passenger in the vehicle.
GRPD says the suspect is not in custody and a search is ongoing. There is no suspect description available at this time.
The intersection had to be completely shut down while police conducted their investigation. It reopened around 4:30 a.m. and the scene is now clear.
There were no additional injuries in the crash.
