A Las Vegas police officer in Nevada was killed in a shooting near University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Thursday morning after responding to a domestic disturbance call.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Joe Lombardo announced the death of 49-year-old Officer Truong Thai who had been with Metro since 1999. Lombardo said Thai was shot in the torso and transported to Sunrise Hospital.
Lombardo said the shooting suspect was identified as 24-year-old Tyson Hampton and he was taken into custody.
Police said the shooting happened around 2:25 a.m. and involved two crime scenes. One near the 800 block of East Flamingo Road near University Center Drive. That intersection is closed to traffic. The second scene is at Desert Inn Road and Eastern Avenue which is also closed.
