A New Jersey man who shot a woman dead for objecting to his handsy sexual advances has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said Tuesday.
39-year-old Thaddues Williams who previously pleaded guilty to the fatal shooting of 36-year-old Aieshia McFadden on December 4, 2020, must serve at least 17 years before becoming eligible for parole. He was sentenced Friday by Hudson County Superior Court Judge Vincent J. Militello.
Williams had pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated manslaughter on July 26. He was initially charged with murder; possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose; unlawful possession of a weapon; and criminal sexual contact for “touching the victim inappropriately.
The state was represented by Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor James Felix and Deputy Chief Assistant Prosecutor Leo Rinaldi.
“The defendant in this case chose to violently cut short the life of a young woman, leaving behind her children, family, and friends,” Felix said. “We thank the court for its service and hope this sentence provides comfort and healing to the victim’s loved ones.”
McFadden was in the area of Martin Luther King Drive and Bayview Avenue at 8:30 p.m. when she was shot in the torso. Authorities said Williams shot her when she defended herself after being groped by Williams.
She was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at approximately 9:10 p.m.
McFadden, who worked in the cafeteria at Lincoln High School, was mourned as “very loving, extremely funny, strong-minded and was passionate about her kids.”
