Police in Alabama are conducting a homicide investigation after a 22-year-old Montgomery man died from a gunshot wound early Sunday morning.

Montgomery police and fire medics responded to a local hospital around 3 a.m. Sunday on a call of a person shot, said Montgomery police Sgt. Tina McGriff.

Authorities found an adult male, later identified as 22-year-old Alonzo Jones, who sustained fatal injuries from a gunshot wound, McGriff said.

The investigation determined the shooting occurred near Eastern Boulevard and Monticello Drive, authorities said, and the circumstances of the incident remained under investigation as of Monday afternoon.
