A 33-year-old Maryland man is facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder, for the shooting death of his wife, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers say Travis Wood, of Waldorf, arrived at the sheriff’s office just after 1 p.m. on Friday requesting that they respond to his home, located on Tawny Drive, off of Acton Lane, to perform a welfare check. Upon arrival at the Waldorf home, they found his wife, 32-year-old Shawnda Wood, shot to death.

Through an initial investigation, detectives determined that Travis Wood was a suspect in the death of his wife. He was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and second-degree assault, according to the sheriff’s office. In addition, he is also facing a firearm charge.

Travis is being held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center.
