Police in Kentucky are investigating a homicide that occurred early Saturday morning on Colonnade Drive.

When Lexington Police arrived, they found a 19-year-old woman inside a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.

She has been identified as Elaina Mammen. The suspect fled before officers arrived.

Police say they were called to the 3400 block of Colonnade Drive in Lexington a little before 6 am Saturday. It was in those moments that Miguel DeLaCruz-Reyes was suddenly woken up.

“It was a loud noise, like someone had dropped something on top of the house,” said DeLaCruz-Reyes. “It was just like a boom.”

DeLaCruz-Reyes says he ran outside to find a car had crashed across the street. Inside that vehicle was Mammen.

He says it wasn’t until police told him that he even realized several bullets had struck his own home.

“It was still kind of dark, so he was like, ‘Is everyone okay? Because there’s gunshots on your gutter, on your wall, on your door,’” DeLaCruz-Reyes said.

Those bullets which hit his wall and door were just a few feet from his daughter’s bedroom, and others took another young woman’s life.

“Such a young age,” said DeLaCruz-Reyes. “My daughter’s 19…and that would be devastating to my family. So, my condolences to the family.”

After waking up to such a scary situation, DeLaCruz-Reyes says he feels fortunate that his own family is okay.

“It can happen to anybody,” DeLaCruz-Reyes said. “No one is 100 percent safe anywhere, but I thank God that nobody got injured. House damage, that can be fixed, but most important is my family’s safety.”

Police say that no suspect information is available at this time, and they encourage anyone with information to call them.
