A North Carolina man is charged with manslaughter after a woman was shot and killed at a motel on Capital Lodging Court in Winston-Salem.

Officers were called to reports of an unconscious woman in one of the rooms at 6:18 a.m. on Sunday.

When police arrived, they found 25-year-old Dasia Gentry shot. Despite first responders’ effort, officers said EMS personnel pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

As a result of the investigation, Rick Monroe Jr. has been charged with voluntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Officers said Monroe Jr. and Gentry were in a domestic relationship at the time of the incident.

Monroe Jr. is currently being held at the Forsyth County Detention Center under a $1,000,000 bond.

His first appearance is scheduled for January 3, 2023.
