Police in Pennsylvania say a 14-year-old was wearing an electronic home monitoring device when he shot and killed a 17-year-old Monday.
Police issued an arrest warrant for Nigel Thompson in the shooting death of Damonte Hardrick.
They said Thompson was being monitored by Allegheny County Juvenile Probation when he walked less than a mile from his home to Hardrick’s Pittsburgh home along Parkfield Street and fired two shots from the street into the home, striking Hardrick once in the head, according to court documents.
Hardrick was pronounced dead the scene.
Investigators said they identified Thompson as a potential suspect then learned he was wearing the monitoring device. They said they were able to track his movements and viewed outdoor surveillance footage showing Thompson outside the Parkfield home, according to the criminal complaint.
Police said they obtained a search warrant for Thompson’s home, where they recovered the home monitoring device, which Thompson removed after the shooting, according to court documents.
Thompson is facing criminal homicide and firearms charges. He turned himself in to police at around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.
