A young Alabama couple are dead after an apparent murder/suicide early Sunday morning in Tuscaloosa, according to Capt. Jack Kennedy of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit.

Around 2:15 a.m. Sunday, officers with the Tuscaloosa Police Department responded to Winding Creek Apartments, 6802 Old Greensboro Road, about a domestic disturbance, Kennedy said.

Several witnesses reported a man and woman were engaged in an altercation, both inside and outside of their apartment. Upon arrival, officers found both individuals deceased inside their apartment from apparent gunshot wounds.

The victims have been identified as 24-year-old Devin Levon Walker and 24-year-old Bernice Etienne Walker.

The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is investigating.

Kennedy said police believe that Devin Walker shot and killed his wife, Bernice Walker, before killing himself.

“This is a tragic example of domestic violence. We ask for the privacy of the victim’s family at this time. Although there are no outstanding suspects at this time, the case will still be investigated to the same standards as every other case the VCU works,” said Kennedy, in a news release.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information at this time.
