Authorities in Alabama are investigating a double murder after a fatal shooting that occurred at a Spanish Fort home, according to police.
The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office identified the victims from Saturday’s double homicide as 52-year-old Clemmie Brown and 42-year-old Syretta Brown.
Investigators say their 25–year-old son Trinell Brown used an AR-15 style rifle to shoot them multiple times at the mobile home they shared on McFarland Road in the Spanish Fort area. Investigators say at least 15 shots were fired and the victims were each hit multiple times.
“There was a four-year-old juvenile present at the time. It’s actually the suspect’s daughter. So unfortunately, we have a very young witness in this case,” said Lt. Andre Reid.
Reid says Brown came home from work Saturday and got into an argument with his parents. Reid would not say what the feud was about but did say it had been ongoing for several days. Reid says Brown did not appear to be upset after the shooting.
“No, he wasn’t upset. In fact, he actually called 911. He cooperated with the deputies when they first arrived. He put the gun down and, you know, basically gave up, came in and gave a statement. So no, I would describe it as pragmatic, almost like he just made this decision to unfortunately murder his parents,” said Reid.
A woman who identified herself as the suspect’s aunt but did not provide her name says her nephew is schizophrenic. She says she was on the phone with her sister, Syretta, when the shooting happened. She disputes investigator’s account of an ongoing feud. She says her nephew fired the rifle outside and her sister told him to stop. That’s when she says more gunfire erupted and her sister ran inside. Reid says Brown does have a mental health problem, but he said Brown was working and it was not “an observable issue.”
“I don’t think that’s it. I think he’s going to need to be held accountable for his actions. I think that this is a decision he made based on his own statements that he just decided to go in and on Saturday was the day he was going to kill his parents,” said Reid.
Reid says deputies had been called to the home previously but it had been several years since the last call. Brown is charged with capital murder.
