A Georgia man reported missing out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana was found dead, according to police.
The Baton Rouge Police Department said the remains of Nathan Millard were found near the 2900 block of Scenic Highway, about three miles from the pub where he was last seen.
Milliard’s remains were found just before 3:30 a.m. on Monday. The 42-year-old Covington man was reported missing over two weeks ago.
A spokesperson for the Texas EquuSearch said his remains were discovered inside a rolled-up carpet, covered in plastic. Tim Miller is the founder and director of the search and recovery organization.
“We followed a lot of leads. And, you know, thankfully, he was basically, accidentally found by somebody who was just down in that area,” Miller said. “Going into it, it did not look like it was going to have a happy ending, but we’ve had miracles before.”
Texas EquuSearch, a nonprofit dedicated to helping find missing people, offered a reward of up to $10,000 after Milliard disappeared on Feb. 22. Miller says the person who found Nathan will receive the reward.
“I talked to the guy that found him. And he’s actually sending his information to us, as we speak,” Miller said. “And we are sending money towards it, towards the reward fund. So, we’re living up to our end of it there. And I just told him that God put you in the right place at the right time.”
The husband and father of five went missing on what was supposed to be a brief work trip. Police started looking into Milliard’s disappearance after one of his clients requested a welfare check.
Milliard hadn’t shown up to a scheduled meeting.
The night before, the pair went to a basketball game and a pub. Milliard left the pub to walk back to his hotel when he went missing. His wife, Amber Milliard, spoke to 11Alive after an investigation was opened into his disappearance.
Milliard’s phone was found near his hotel and his debit card was used following his disappearance.
Miller was sad but relieved it was all over.
“Yesterday, I was talking to a couple of guys. One was eating dinner, and I said, ‘I believe, the most we can hope for right now is to go to a funeral sometime soon. That’s the most we can hope for.’ So, when I got that call, way before daybreak this morning, it was like it was a relief because, again, I was fearing that this is very, possibly one of them was never going to be found,” Miller explained.
Currently, police have not identified Milliard’s cause of death. An autopsy is being conducted, according to a Facebook post from Baton Rouge Police.
