A 34-year-old Texas man was booked into the El Paso County Jail in connection to the murder of a woman who went missing, according to authorities.
Christopher Paul Maya was arrested Tuesday at a Walmart parking lot in northeast El Paso by the U.S. Marshals Lone Start Fugitive Task Force.
Maya was charged with murder with a $1 million bond.
31-year-old Michelle Morales-Nakaza was reported missing on March 31, according to El Paso police.
Detectives with the Crimes Against Persons unit began a missing person investigation for Morales-Nakaza.
The 32-year-old’s body was found in the area of Red Sands in El Paso County.
She was last seen alive the evening of March 27 at the Baskin-Robbins at 12379 Edgemere Blvd., across the street from El Dorado High School, police said.
Morales-Nakaza, who did not drive a car, possibly was picked up by a man driving a white 2005-10 Toyota Camry, police had said.
A missing persons report had been filed March 31 and a bulletin asking for the public’s help in finding Morales-Nakaza was issued last weekend.
On Monday, homicide detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit were in the Red Sands desert area after her body was found off Snoqualmie Drive. A cause of death has not been disclosed. The investigation continues.
The investigation into the murder continues.
